Stain on your relationship?

I've only ever gotten this msg a couple times praying to god in adom in the 10+ years I've played. How does it happen?

I'm a C Dark elf paly. Converted a neutral altar on the bottom of the puppy cave to chaotic with 3000 gold.
Sacrificed for 1st precrown. Everything was alright. Kept sacrificing for 2nd... prayed to remove an annoying cursed item off me.
And got "You sense a stain on your relation to Lol'th", got curse removed but no idea what I did.

Ideas?

Also the stain prevents further pre crowning and crowning doesn't it?
And if it does does it prevent it on other alignments as well?

The stain refers to being doomed or cursed, if I remember right.
