    Just gave it another try and this time I actually got my char (candle-born mist elven chaos knight) into the westside! Sadly on the first level of the TotHK he died to an exploding door, although he was at his maximum 46 HP. What a hell of an explosion trap :-o

    Yeah, I've had plenty of early trap deaths in this challenge. Mist elves maybe not the best for those things. You kill 400 gremlins to get the climbing set and then die to the first door, sad story of adventuring in the Drakalor Chain.

    I think I've ended up with a pretty good run going...

    Been rolling Orc Paladins. They're fairly nice for this mission since they start with 8-11 PV and everburning torch, which means you can get the climbing set ~50% of the time. If I hit a bad gremlin bomb, I usually just restart right away.

    UC has been very kind to me. There is a neutral altar on UC:1, and, equally importantly, a rich flavour room right near the start of UC:2. The latter means that I basically don't have to worry about food--if I start getting low, I can just fight there for as long as I need. Good for healing up and stuff too. I've just been crowned with =Acid and Perion plate. Not really ideal, but the extra PV is nice. I have plenty of room to try for a postcrown or two as well... I haven't been down to any of the cavernous levels yet.

    Nice going, my Troll Beasty that made it to xl 16 also had a rich flavour room. Still died of starvation in the end after getting poison hands and the whole one side opposite a river on UC:5 got populated by white worms.

    Just died on my first attempt with a dwarf druid, two ice votices froze her to death on UC:3. She ran out of castings quite soon as she only got 199 from the starting book, only other books were Light and Dispel undead. Made xl 10, no gremlins were actually killed.

    Edit - I'm playing with the difficult rules though, where no ascending is permitted until the ring is retrieved.

    First postcrown was silver key. Thanks deity. Got to wait till level 17 now for a chance at another. What I really need is a tower crystal shield to drop I think.

    Corruption could be a big problem in this challenge, actually. I've got two... good ones, thankfully.

    At least you can unlock the door to the High King's Tomb without worrying about a fireball trap melting the ice.

    Got the ring. Now I just need to gain a bunch of levels before I can attempt the Rift or Maze.
