This can be true for many monsters. I've had balor tension rooms, where upon entering half of them teleported out (around 8 balors) and the rest rushed at me. No fun.

I hope you at least didn't know you get turned into a living wall so you got something out of it. : )
Well, you don't. You get paralyzed and die.
Shoot fire bolt into the tension room, dead. If I checked the walls I would have rather retreated.
Next time I will check the walls with 'l'ook.
I once had a balor threat room, but instead of teleporting out, they preferred to have fun with their summoning powers. Mowing down waves and waves of random monsters... took its time.
That's only if they kill you with a Strength-draining hit, I think.
