Shredded by exploding wand!

After all these years, ADOM still manages to surprise me!

This was a new year's eve character, a wizard who started with the spells Lightning Bolt, Remove Curse, and Death Ray. She had excellent luck finding very powerful spellbooks and bookstores, so that she didn't even need to go visit the Library--but she did it anyway just for kicks. Lots of fun blasting enemies left and right, bought Nature's Friend outright in Casino without even gambling (only 170k gp--seemed very low to me but I'm not complaining!), had the medal of chaos and 10 scrolls of corruption removal for a try at an ultra...

Then, the death:

I needed one more dig to enter the Mana Temple, no pick axe, only one wand of digging (0). I had enough PP left to charge the wand, but not enough to cast Mystic Shovel, so rather than retreating and recovering PP, I tried charging my wand. Who knew it could be so dangerous? I entered 50, thinking I was being asked how many PP I wanted to spend, when I probably should have entered 1 (=1 charge).

Boom! This outcome was not mentioned in the ADOM manual :-o Next time I'll be more careful. Check out my HP total on the last round...

Lol. I thought that wizards and wands was fixed.

I think what was fixed was the part where the wand explodes when you enter zero. You are still free to try overcharging wands if you wish.

I entered 50, thinking I was being asked how many PP I wanted to spend, when I probably should have entered 1 (=1 charge).

The Adom Wiki says it asks how many PP you want to spend.. So which one is it? I happen to have a wizard of that level. Probably won't risk it anyway, could be fixed buggily..
