Default 15 years for another stupid death...

so i've been playin ADOM on and off for about 15 years...i've probably registered a couple thousand deaths but i decided to take a crack at it again since i'm deployed to afghanistan and bandwidth reliant games are near impossible...this is going to be a bit long but it's my first post about getting really far and failing...i've read the forums a lot and have seen a lot of the posts but i think this death hit me really hard just because of the amount of time i spent into the character and how unreasonably slow i took the entire game...by the time i had hit death i had logged around 40+ hours...

majority of my deaths have been from playing too aggressive with a elf/caster combo going into places like dark forge a little too early...so i decide to use my Diablo II sorcerer lvl 99 hardcore experience and take the game super slow...

Stayed in ID until level 11, finished terinyo quests and back to ID until level 16...needless to say i stayed in ID level 1-10 to prevent stupid deaths and to rack up spellbooks...by the time i hit 16 i was well prepared for the pyramid with controlled teleportation, most of the bolt spells some of the ball spells, disarm traps, knock, identify...cleared pyramid and then went back to ID staying below ID:20 to ensure survivability...

Eventually hit the COC in my 20's and cleared thrundarr dwarven graveyard...everything relatively easy to include ring of the high kings.

Only hiccup i hit was Tower of eternal flames against the ancient wyrm or whatever... at level 26 and had some problems with him hitting me insanely hard, dropped to 1 hp at one point before drinking ultra healing potions from saved khelevaster (i was lucky to find djinni summoning early on for AOLS). eventually cleared with lots of magic missiles/lightning stuff

by this time i'm level 30 and prepping for temples and exploring COC with mostly good/artifiact gear standard Dwarven Axe (Rolf) and sword of sharpness, eternium plate mail, seven leagues boots, amulet of free action (with petrification, ankh, and others for situational stuff), rings of elemental mastery, elemental gloves and gloves of toughness +5...all the best gear you can get that does not require crowning...

by now i'm hitting the COC and exploring since it's my first time here and reach the casino....gotta play the games and this is where i start to notice corruptions accumulating real quick and the first ones i get consistently is where you corrupt things that you hit...now this isn't really a problem except for rats which seem to be able to survive 1 hit but turn into chaos rats...no biggy i'm a spell caster i'll just hit them with spells...so walking down from casino back to dwarftown a couple of rats surround me in a long corridor setting up for a nice bolt spell....unfortunately i cast my magic missile while in a corner and instead of pushing 4 i hit the number 1....immediately it hits the corners and bounces like 15 times...i went from 250+ HP with about 70/35 DV/PV full resistance (i know it doesn't matter for magic missile) to -280 HP.....good game no redo...

maybe in another 15 years i'll reach level 40's.... a victory post is probably so far off but i'll keep trying i guess....oh btw i don't save scum but i wish i did this one time to save this character from the full retard mode i went through...i think i was just too lax due to all the grinding and simply hitting things to death as a spell caster...also the magic missile spell was easier to hit due to spell placement on my keyboard instead of the frost bolt/fire bolt/lightning bolt (which i would've survived due to immunity)...lessons learned

This is the first cause of death for high level wizards. Try playing a less powerful character, or just try an archer if you're really into hitting things from a distance

    Classic magic bolter :P
If I had a coin for every wizard I lost this way... let's just say it would be double digits by now, maybe triple.

i remember losing a UCG that way once, on D50, went to bolt and pressed the wrong button near the chaos mutants. Suffice to say i was a little vexed
