    Default Large gnoll goes berserk after failed pickpocketing. (Poss balance issue? 1.2.0 p22)

    I just lost a L9 orcish ranger with 95hp and 12/7 DV/PV on UD: 5 after my third failed pickpocket attempt on a large gnoll. The message generated was "The large gnoll notices your attempt and gets very angry!" (as opposed to just "...and gets angry".) The Gnoll seemed to go from 2 attacks per round and unable to hurt me, to 9 attacks per round, hitting 8 times out of 9 and dealing ~20 damage per hit before reduction! (I *think* I was on full HP, but I was certainly well above half.)

    This seems like a pretty insane buff just for getting mad at a pickpocket. Safe to say I'll only be pickpocketing really weak monsters for the time being...

    Interestingly this code has - except for the clearer message - not changed at all. It has been this way for a long while.

    One of the changes in a previous version was that 1 in 6 monsters will go berserk after a failed pokcetpicking attack. The results of monsters going berserk in ADOM are:
    +6 to hit
    +6 to damage
    -6 to DV
    double attacks

    For a large knoll this usually would mean:

    Four attacks per turn at +9 to hit and for 1d10+9 damage instead of two attacks at +3 to hit and for 1d10+3 damage.

    Makes me wonder if doubling attacks for berserk monsters is too much but I can't remember too many complaints about that beforehand.

    Bling raging mimics, quite common cause of death for the high level characters. Its beatable, though, but very dangerous.

    Why do you have +to-hit, +damage and -dv when on Berserk tactics?
