I feel like I have a good understanding of getting crowned or pre-crowned, but how does one get crowned more than once reliably? Most of my characters end up crowned at this point, but there have been a few that might have pulled a 2nd if I knew how to get it done.
Is it really just as simple as going through the same process again? Does it take more to get there and if so how much more?
most of people pre-crown once and then crown, some skip pre-crowning or crowning, it depends mostly on the class gifts and game drops
post-crownings are rare
One of the easiest way to get some pre-/post-crownings is when altar is created on PC:5 cavernous level (or just above or below, but that is way more tedious).
It seems piety has changed a bit, as before we did not get the emote favored and greatly favored. It burns a lot of game time to get that 2nd pre-crowning though, now unless I find something that lets me do it quickly I just grab the one and move on.
But I spent a lot of time working with altars, here are some things I would do:
I would use stomafillia to get my pre-crowings. It was easy to get two artifacts with stomafilla. You can also use the oracle corpse (do not sacrifice it) to get yourself the first artifact quickly, as it dooms you. Just make sure you know what you are doing if you are gonna use doom to help get artifacts. A ring of doom will increase the rate monster generate. Have a way to take it off if you encounter a breeder or a paralyzing mob. Clearing out walls so mobs can get to you faster will help some and put your stock pile of food on the ground so that you are not encumbered. Hurtlings can sacrifice cooked foods, this will also allow to sacrifice corpses from breeders for a sacrifice that is *deeply appreciated*. Sometimes with a hurtling I just sac all the cooked corpses I am carrying and right away I get my first crown, or at least very close to it. But cooking and food preservation on any race/class combo is a way for a new character to start stock piling stuff for sacrifice before they find an altar; unfortunately unless you are a hurtling the chances of getting a cooking pot is rare. Get your two pre-crownings before any other artifacts are generated. So you can get two artifacts than when you are ready you can get crowned for the third. I do it this way so that I can still get into the pyramid and get the artifacts there. I save the crowning for later so I can leverage the ability to shift alignment. By the time you are level 16 or 17 you could have two pre-crown artifacts and than the two you get in the pyramid. I know that some may not like the mummy wrap but it really is not all that bad. Keep in mind that you can only get pre/post-crowned so much: character level >= 8 + 3 × artifacts generated

Don't think oracle corpse isvthat effective either as doom and curse will get removed before doom giving that much edge. Later on crown of science is good if you are going for crowning a bit later.

I use it all the time to boost the 1st pre-crowing and it works great. By the time doom is removed you are almost there. The crown however is an artifact, you generally want to do your pre-crowing before you generate any artifacts and before you even hit the pyramid.
