Default How Liches heal themselves as clerical magic actually kills them?

    Hi, everyone!
I wonder how Lich-like creatures can heal themselves as casting Heal on undead destroy them.
    Thank you for your attention

Probably by using an evil, twisted version of the spell that runs on negative energy.

    Cast Death Ray on themselves?

A long time ago, I forgot or perhaps didn't know that Heal damaged undead. I was in the middle of a big fight alongside my pet very experienced pet Emperor Lich. You can guess how that ended.

I remember "healing" Griff with a 35 PV druid that couldn't reliably damage it with 17 St and 1d8+5 adamantium spear, since no better weapon has been found.

I once got really frustrated by Rehetep sickening me repeatedly even with good DV and using up all my sickness removal, so I "blessed" him by slinging several potions of holy water at him. Thanks to the high damage it does on undead and the unerring nature of thrown potions, this was very satisfying.

They cannot cast it when they have more than -30 mana.

Yeah, the mechanics for monster spellcasting were always complex.
