I wonder what happens when you drop your own gold there and then pick it up. Probably the same reaction.

I think kicking gold in current version makes guardian hostile immediately...

it doesn't in pre23. i cleared the vault like that, then a jackalwere summoned some jackals which i killed and one of them droped a pile of gold on a vault tile (i digged it a lot with wands, since i had no pick axe) and i picked that up to die in the next turn to several punching hits.

tested and confirmed, if you drop gold, then pick it up, the guardian becomes hostile. By the way, the walls are also considered territory of the royal vault, so if you dig it up, be sure to kick the gold at least one tile farther than the wall.

It does in r56 however. I would consider r56 being current version.

i consider both, since r56 is not for the general public.

R56 is not for general public for free, however anyone can buy in prerelease/testing program which grants acccess to latest available version.
So it is not like r56 is some secret dev thing or something.
