Default Ultra Chaotic Ending, Dwarven Chaos Knight

I usually don't play chaotic characters but now I decided to try the Chaos Knight class to see if it would give a different experience. And sure it did! At times I wasn't sure what I was going to do with nobody talking to me. Then again, after I had decided to go for the Ultra, I was really looking forward to Dwarftown Massacre, the talk of Ancardia for generations to come.

I wonder if the RNG really liked me or if Chaos Knights just get more good items than usual. Since I couldn't do most of the early quests I started by killing Jharod to get healing, didn't even explore the dungeon much. Then I dived to the high mountain village and went straight to Dwarftown. I thought I'd play Chaotic to the end so I just went deeper through the dangerous levels. At that point I identified my stuff and found that I had discovered the AoLS. In fact, not long after another one was generated in the Big Room, and during the whole game I found two more! Also by that time I had found a Sword of Sharpness and 7LB, and the Sword was to be my main weapon for quite a long time. At that point I was starting to think I'd have to change my alignment after all, particularly since I've never beaten Eternal Guardian and didn't want to die wasting such a good character. So at exp level 18 I became Neutral and stayed that way until level 46 or so.

My previous Ultra attempt was quite a long time ago. This time with the addition of the Haggar cave I found it a bit easier to satisfy the demented ratling. I tried the Bug Temple and got a couple of corpses, but even the greater claw bugs were hitting me just too hard at this time so I postponed the task until just before I went for my final dive. Of my initial 3 corruptions two were the ones required for the quickling tree. However, I had some trouble hitting the random quicklings so I didn't search for the place. In the Haggar level with a greater red dragon vault there was next to the stairs a quickling king tension room, which made me worry that a quickling greater vault has been added. While I did kill some of them in melee, a wand of fireballs was important. Found Cloak of Oman, which might have saved my life on the Chaos plane. Also around this time I got Alertness from a potion of education.

I stuck with non-artifact weapons until I got the trident of the red rooster, at some point beginning to practice polearms, finding a penetrating one which helped a lot. With a penetrating weapon even a relatively low level character can do wonders.

Descending from the Casino the stairs were generated in the middle of the river, and when I moved away the Casino Guard followed me, blocking the path back up. I thought I'd teleport him away but he got hostile so I had to kill him with a wand of acid. No big deal, but I thought it was quite strange and somewhat funny.

As with some of my previous Ultras, there was a tedious bit trying to get to exp level 45. So I spent quite a bit of time in the blue dragon caves. After getting the trident I went to kill Keriax, throwing a few potions of cure poison at him. Then I went to the Greater White Unicorn to get rid of all my corruption. I wonder what the unicorn thought about me munching away at Keriax's corpse right in front of him. Then for the final dive...

I descended to kill the Dwarftown inhabitants until I was C- and got crowned. Ahh, finally those wonderful CK powers back! D:50 was easy by this point. After killing everyone there I kept dipping potions to the corrupting amulet and drinking raw chaos to get enough corruptions, after which I quaffed all the boosting potions.

In the final battle against Andy he managed to paralyze me. Aagh!

Thankfully the random teleportation kicked in twice so I could move myself away from him and then equip the amulet of free action. Phew. Previously I had gone this far 4 times, two of which resulted in losses. Once I didn't kill him fast enough and got too many corruptions. Another time I beat him using my bare hands to a bloody pulp with a beastfighter, only to equip the wrong trident at the last minute. And even now it could have ended badly.

I wonder how the score got so high at 125861060 with 23 million xps. My previous best was a regular ending with 20 million points and the same amount of xp.

The score for CKs is somewhat screwed at this point (rather badly screwed as CKs get insane amounts of points).

It's nice to see a CK ultra since the class is already a challenge to play normally but doing the ultra and losing all class powers for the bulk of the gameplay... quite a feat.
Really lucky with that cloak of oman. Too bad you missed the bracers of war, the char would have been even more powerful with those.
    You also missed this:

the elven long bow "Sun's Messenger"
    the silvery arrow "True Aim"
but I suppose you didn't really need those.

    Good work overall.

Actually I did find the bow (uselessness gift) and arrow (casino) but you're right, didn't have much use for archery in the game except against Emperor Liches etc. Bracers of war I missed though, as well as the staff of the wanderer. I'm quite happy with the turn count at 124 000, my previous Ultra was 200 000 turns and normal endings are around 80 000.

Overall my experience was that Chaos Knights (particularly Dwarven) are quite powerful, strong enough in the beginning and with really good class powers at levels 12 and 18. Grand mastery in polearms is much closer thanks to the added melee levels, and with a penetrating one-handed spear, a good shield and a collection of dragon armors not much else is needed. No need to rely on artifacts in that case. In some way I found the experience a bit easier than with other melee classes I've played to the end because once they get enough hit points and DV there's not much trouble with any class unless one gets careless with mimics or something. But being disliked by everyone surely makes the balance ok - in fact, a lot of the fun was that the class still felt balanced, but in a different way from other classes.
