Default Pilgrim, human priest (gate closer)

So, human priest. I made several failed attempts before understood how to play him. I tried going to Small Cave with no luck. The only character that was able to get the blanket and dive into UD was killed by a mixed tension room next door.

This way I understood that Small Cave is a bad idea. Humans level up too fast, even when I chose to go DD/VD I quickly felt that monsters become more dangerous faster that I do. I also understood that priest is a melee class for the most part of the game, especially in the beginning. It is because you start with books of non-offensive spells and other books are rare. So I chose to go Druid Dungeon and then get Spellbook of Nether Bolt as a reward (you have Healing and Herbalism skills from the beginning and as a priest you don't need any potions of healing, you will get a lot of different healing spells).

One of my starting spellbooks was a spellbook of Bless. The spell is actually good in the beginning of the game, it is cheap and improves your to-hit chance. I casted it a lot till Dwarftown and later.

There were multiple cats on the last DD level so I retreated and headed to Puppy Cave. For some reason human priests start with Music skill but without any musical instrument, so I decided to wait with druid's quest until better (music-wise) times.

I now don't remember what was the vault in the Puppy Cave, something bad so I did not finish it and went to CoC. There was a nice herbs level and two lesser vaults up to Dwarftown. Stats, equipment and weapon marks were improved a lot. Spell to disarm traps was very helpful too.

Then I made ancient dwarf's quests, Pyramid, Dwarven Graveyard, finished Druid Dungeon and that vault in Puppy Cave; I don't remember exact order. I played without Treasure Hunter talent and picketpocketing so felt the difference. Most of good loot were from vaults. (Casino and red dragons vault on D: 46 were a joy of loot for the character, they covered almost everything I needed; though no 7lb and mental stability.)

The route for the rest of the game was ToTHK -> Darkforge -> ToEF -> Casino -> return to surface and read all spellbooks -> dive to the end. Khelavaster was saved (pool sipping), Casino was robbed. I now see that had really good assortment of weapons and armor. There was a crown of fire in Dwarftown shop. When I saw the crown, it was immediately bought and improved by scrolls of protection. I was wearing that crown for the whole game then. Also I had a whip of penetration, which was really good. Usually you have some trash of penetration like knifes. I though first that a whip would be trashy too, but whips have better good to-hit, to-damage and DV increases when trained. I was surprised that the whip did not burn in Darforge because golems tried hard.

Crowning gave me cold immunity and Shirt of Saints. I wore the shirt for some time indeed but after I found an excelled eternium plate mails, it was put to inventory. Purifier was from a surge of power, I used it all midgame because of its slaying powers. Later I switched to Big Punch/Wyrmlance for red dragons vault and finally to adamantium broadsword of devastation. The whip was still useful even on D: 50.

Some comments about the log file

    Code:
       uncursed crown of leadership [+2, +7] {Ch+18} [65s]
    From potion of uselessness

    Code:
       uncursed bracers of regeneration [+6, +0] [18s]
    Did not use it

    Code:
       uncursed dagger of death (+5, 5d5+2) [10s]
       uncursed knife of endurance (+6, 1d3+6) {To+4} [8s]
       uncursed bloody dagger (+6, 2d3+5) [10s]
Left this because in the beginning of the game I had cursed dagger equipped so trained Knifes to level 7. Did not use this stuff, maybe knife of endurance one time to heal when regenerating PP.

    Code:
       uncursed thin dagger "Cat's Claw" (+4, 3d3) {Dx+8} [10s]
    Drop from D: 50.

    Code:
       uncursed rune-covered halberd "Wyrmlance" (+15, 4d8+10) [-2, +0] [50s]
    Good agains dragons.

    Code:
       heap of 73 uncursed rocks (+0, 1d4) [365s]
For the long time did not have any bow or crossbow so slings were well trained.

    Code:
heap of 2 uncursed magical writing sets (2) [10s]
Forgot to use this, blessed all the water.

    Code:
       blessed ring of searching [1s]
This one was from the start, was good for Pyramid and Dwarven Graveyard and low trap detection skill.

    Code:
       uncursed ring of invisibility [1s]
Used once to clear nasty ghost lords tension room in Mana Temple. I really was confused with that room initially, did not know what to do. Then I remembered that priest are spellcasters meanwhile and burned them all one by one. Never had ball spells this run.

    Code:
       uncursed brass ring [1s]
This one was left from a failed attempt to summon friendly djinni to kill those ghost lords. Lords are far more powerful I would better to wish for scrolls of familiar summoning.

    Code:
uncursed wand of item detection (4 charges) [3s]
uncursed wand of monster detection (1 charge) [3s]
blessed wand of digging (0 charges) [3s]
I believe I used only these wands. No wand of destruction.

    Code:
uncursed potion of cure corruption [2s]
Spend one of these on Chaos Archmage. Did not notice any effect.

    Code:
heap of 2 blessed scrolls of corruption removal [4s]
Burned two SoCRs in Air Temple FacePalm

    Code:
heap of 31 uncursed pepper petals [62s]
heap of 38 blessed pepper petals [76s]
heap of 18 blessed alraunia antidotes [36s]
heap of 6 uncursed lumps of beeswax [30s]
uncursed lump of gelee royal [3s]
heap of 5 uncursed spenseweeds [10s]
heap of 14 blessed spenseweeds [28s]
heap of 3 blessed curaria mancox herbs [6s]
heap of 4 uncursed curaria mancox herbs [8s]
Did not use anything from here.

    Code:
    Unarmed fighting 2 +2 +0 +0 basic 60
That is because of the gladiator and also a statue which trained my weapon marks.

    Code:
    Daggers & knives 7 +6 +3 +1 skilled 407

    Code:

    From Purifier.

    Code:
    Swords 9 +7 +5 +3 excellent 438
    Adamantium broadswoard of devastation.

    Code:
    Axes 8 +6 +5 +2 excellent 980

    Code:
    Whips 10 +14 +9 +10 excellent 1628
Trained in Darkforge, ToEF, red dragons vault and other places all the game. See that +9 to-dam and +10 DV? Wow!

    Code:
    Pole arms 9 +9 +5 +10 excellent 1498
Wyrmlance in the red dragon vault.

    Code:
    Slings 8 +16 +12 +2 excellent 210
    Bows 7 +14 +10 +2 skilled 300
    Crossbows 8 +16 +12 +2 excellent 353

    Code:

That's the maximum for lvl 42.

    Code:
      First aid .................100 (superb) [+2d4]
Super good skill. You recover a lot of damage after crits and vortex explosions if apply next turn. Maybe it is specific to priest, will need to test with other chars.

    Code:
      Food preservation .........100 (superb) [+2d4]
The best skill in the game.
