There were heaps of gold indeed.
Just left casino with 34 gold after spending more than 400k, and I basically just bought slaying ammo, couple of potions and a magical writing set (in hindsight i'm not sure why).

Can a greater vault contain "only" one artifact?

Not complaining since I found bracers of war, a RoDS and an acid ball spellbook, double checked area and couldnt find any invis/hidden mobs or such.

Also, maybe I need to reevaluate whirlwind, dragon slaying ammo with it was awesome, and thats with almost no skill in it.

Whirlwind is badass, I consider it one of the better artifacts to have, since when it comes to slings you practically have unlimited ammo.

I'll keep posts in this thread since it's the same character.

I've seen a few GUV's and cleaned one or two but this is a record difficult one I've seen.
While it looks like an interesting challenge I dunno about 10 emp liches.

Since I'm already so buffed that everything else is pretty much a walk in the park I'm intreagued despite the risk.

Yeah the Greater Undead Vaults generated in D:45 are really hard. A wizard gatecloser of mine died when he tried to empty one... Sure it was in a former prerelease and I've heard that summoners have been nerfed since then, but he had carefully cleaned the outskirt of the vault, then it took 10 turns tops after the door had been opened to have the entire vault side of the map filled with monsters, and then I had to fight through hordes of ancient karmic dragons with unlimited free-refills to get to an emperor lich that is immensely tougher.
It was like battling the Elite Four from Pokemon, beating it, then having all the trainer come at me and beat my 10-years-old sorry ass... Well I killed 5 of them (enduring a lot of stat drain) then one smarter than the others remembered he could cast Death Ray. And I had no resistance.
Since then, I avoid any kind of GUV; they are more than doable with a (very) decent character, but they need a lot of preparation to clear and after several thousand turns fighting on D:45 you'd rather have some SoCR than a couple of random artifacts and some heaps of gold.

Yeah, also as orc it's a separate sort of battle against the ghosts.
I do have area spells but mana as an orc that also drained when using writing kits isn't very high, and while wisdom is ok it's not bonkers regarding area spells.
Could maybe have boosted wisdom and used orb and gone haywire.

I've met one emperor lich but 10 not forgetting assistant lich kings is another league entirely.
Maybe I'll poke in after closing and tele out when things get too rough.

Btw I've rarely seen anything else than fire vault (red dragons etc), GUV and GGV.
I assume greater black, white and blue (dragon) vaults can spawn?
Even karmic vault? that'd be really nasty.

I don't think karmic vaults can spawn. They'd be way too overpowered and impossible for a melee char if he can't fight doomed.
I remember fighting a black vault but I think it wasn't a greater one. Item destruction was still overwhelming.
