Well, I had wanted this character to be a melee character, but I found too much good ammunition to only melee stuff - many of the harder battles were done with slaying ammo.

    A few notes:
    - Bards are incredibly powerful once you get them going. They can basically do everything!

    - The new 'scroll of monster aggravation' trick with Nuurag-Vaarn is ... almost too cheap.

    - The 'wand of destruction ending' is also almost too cheap.

    - I only ended up getting Concentration after I closed the gate ... I got a ring of djinni summoning on D:46 or something like that, and didn't want to backtrack to my book stash in Dwarftown at that point.

    - Only one greater vault all game (a giant vault on D:46), which (along with the relative lack of action on D:50) meant that I finished the game at a very low level, relatively speaking.

    - Finding an early phase dagger made a lot of the mid-and-late game very easy. I also found Kinslayer in the Casino gift shop, which was the perfect weapon for much of the end game.

So. Nothing too spectacular, but a win is a win. It's only my third win to date, and my first done mostly with melee, so I'm happy with it.

    Congratulations!

What's the trick on Nuraag-Vaarn? You should not be able to make him teleport out of the temple entirely in the current version. Can you lure him out of the chamber into the trap corridor or something?

I'm jealous of Heal, I pretty much never find it unless I'm playing a wizard and go to the library. What skills did you start with and what spells did you get at level 18?
Gate closers: GE Wizard, DE Archer, Ratling Elementalist, Ratling Duelist, GE Merchant, ME Druid, HE Mindcrafter, ME Monk

Oh, this was on 1.2.0 pre 23. I'm not doing the current pre-release just yet - a bit behind the times.

Yeah, it was incredibly useful, and meant I only had to use 2 PoEH during the whole game. Actually, the spells I got at level 18 were fantastic: Acid Ball saved me on the Earth Temple (although I probably could have fought my way out, it was very good that I didn't need to), and Heal ... well, Heal is Heal, what more can I say. I didn't get Concentration until after I closed the Gate - I kinda wish I had backtracked when I got the Wish, and read all of my book stash at that point, but I didn't need to, so ...

The skills I got at 25 were crap - Woodcraft, Pick Locks (I already had a full set of keys), Pick Pockets (which could have been useful if I'd been bothered to use it, but I mostly can't be bothered), and basically nothing that had any kind of effect. I did, however, start with an incredible skillset - Dark Elf and Bard skills, plus Find Traps, Disarm Traps, Dodge, Appraising (which can be very useful, believe me) and Fletchery, which I never bothered with because I didn't need to.

I also found a mass amount of dwarven chaos knights in DF and in the TotHK final cavern, which fed me many Wands of Digging. Digging is one of those things that you don't notice normally, but which is incredibly annoying not to have when you do need it.
