Hey guys,

From what I understand it's still not very clear what are the factors that will make Thrundarr give you the shield instead of Big Punch. Well I have been able to get it 3 times in a row with an L HE pally (latest steam version). It still may be a pure coincidence but here it goes.

I got the the last of Thrundarr's quests and went looking for the daemon but never found it. Went back to Thrundarr and got a quest to kill a Troll Chief so it's pretty clear that someone in the village killed the daemon. After completing the replacement quest I've been given the shield. On my other run I let the village kill the daemon and did the replacement quest, shield again. Same thing on the third run. I never had the axe on those run (I always try to be N when talking to the mystic).

Maybe a coincidence but it would be weird.

You get the dwarven shield for the arena quest [sometimes]
You get BP for killing the greater demon in DT.

The arena quest comes before the demon one.

Somehow you've confused the order of Thrundarr's quests. Something might be buggy, I'm not sure.

Since there was just a thread on using spoiler boxes:

Thrundarr gives 5 quests:

1. Kill something random (although there are like 4 creatures for this quest nowadays)
2. Pass the forest or Dwarven Halls
3. Kill the ogres
4. Defeat 20th fight in the arena
5. Kill the Demon

HOWEVER, if you have already entered the forest before finishing the first fight you get a random kill quest instead. Same applies to #4 there, if you've already defeated the 20th fight in the arena you get a kill a random monster quest instead.

The shield is a possible reward for that 4th quest - you can get it if your character is lawful but even then it's only a chance, Dwarves might have a higher chance (unconfirmed rumor I think but it has been true in my experience). Big punch is the reward for the 5th quest. Big punch should always be available. The demon does teleport around and very few of the villagers can actually kill it. Are you sure in these games that the fifth quest was actually completed?

There might be a bug in the fact that he actually gave a reward even though you got a random kill quest instead of the real quest. Pretty sure you are supposed to get nothing. Or maybe it's been changed and that's by design.

I've finished the arena by accident before getting the quest (p23), and you do get the usual rewards if he gives you the random monster quest instead
