    Default Ultra advice

I need a bit of advice on my second ultra attempt (gave up the first).
Ratling and gaab bay are done.

I'm 10.5 days (day 79.5) from darknight at barb glade and not sure how long it takes to walk up to Stone Circle.
Do I dig down and do all the stuff in COC etc with the risk of delaying stone circle to day 120 or go up there and with the extra risk of not beeing prepared (lvl 30 with decent but far from extreme stats) ?
On the other hand is there any hurry with stone circle? I still need to do most of COC, blue dragon caves, filk etc.

Yes I know I'm a bit high on days considering what I've accomplished but I've also done some major screw ups on my way up till now.

Secondly I assume that a really high LE is a must to learn spells as a gnome ranger, especially w/o concentration.

Your days aren't too high and days don't really matter that much anyway. My last ULE (ranger) was won around day 160 because I didn't have SLB until I wished for them after I didn't find any in casino. I usually save stone circle as one of the last things just because it's a hassle to get to, and extra difficult without SLB (and maybe impossible in some cases thanks to RNG?). If you're worried about not being able to kill him, it doesn't really hurt to wait until 120. If you have reliable escape you could always just try and leave if it looks bad, but probably be careful if he has a confusion attack or anything (screw you skeleton king).

I had mixed success learning spells on ranger. I wished for concentration but that was after I read all my books. I waited until I had around 25-30 LE and put the crown of science on. My bolt spells turned out pretty good, and I got about 300 points of teleport (which drained pretty quickly deep in the CoC, I was surprised when I pressed the quickmark hotkey and nothing happened because I unlearned it). I read acid ball once for 70 points and it exploded the second time I tried.

you'll be fine if you postpone it till 120, I think it'd be better to do the first dive before day 90. There's quite some chance you'll get some SLB there btw, and then you'll perhaps be able to get it all done before day 90.

    Thanks for the advice.
Regarding SLB I'm on my second pair so thats not an issue.

Regarding spellbooks I realize my pp regen will be very bad w/o concentration so I'll stick to book cast the few spells I can for now.

Oh, if you've actually got the SLB already I think there shouldn't be any issue with smashing the blue caves and temples and entering the circle on 90. SLB really work wonders, it just takes you few hours to walk from CoC to the circle wearing them (maybe 10)

Though to my surprise last game I found out that class power movement reduction does not work like SLB in the wilderness. I've also seemed to notice that pressing '5' in the wilderness seems to take as much time as moving without SLB, regardless of whether you're wearing them or not. I can't confirm that though.

Yep, and even better with high skill, amulet of the eye, torch(s) and potions of boost speed you can hit him so far so fast he can't do anything back.

I normally start with a pot of cure poison just to ensure that he can't do anything serious.
