    Default How does mindcrafter lategame work?

    So I've got a ratling mindcrafter sitting on D47 right now, and he's an absolute mess. Somehow despite numerous setbacks, he's managed to come through in pretty good condition. He lost his climbing set in the ancient city and didn't get back out til past day 90. Now he's making the final plunge with 4 orbs in hand and working through the remainder, and holy crap the difficulty escalated. I don't remember it being this crazy. Between the greater undead vault summoning karmic wyrms and the tension room of names ancient red wyrms hitting for like 300+ its not going smoothly.

    Anyways, to get to my question, I'm wondering how mindcrafters should run in terms of playstyle really. It seems like all their nukes are a bit too low in damage later on, while costing a ton of PP. And their confusion effects(which are awesome) can only take them so far as more and more enemies are corrupted, undead, or resistant in the later levels. I kind of built this guy to fight in melee more with the mindcraft for utility and control, but that fell apart around D:45. The funny thing is, despite all the stuff that's gone wrong this game all the elemental temples have been a piece of cake, and I've still got 2 slaying rings, like 30+ shots of demon slaying ranged ammo across bows and crossbows, and level 6 ranged skill in each.

    But yeah, the undead and dragons are eating me alive. I'm out of slaying ammo and I can't really risk engaging in melee.

    Do you have greater telekinetic blast? That's really the only mindcraft power that is important as far as the endgame is concerned. It's crazy powerful. Before that point, mindcrafters are basically just a standard melee/missile character with some confusion blasts. Don't be afraid to pray for PP. It's a very cheap, efficient prayer. Blessed scrolls of power are pretty effective now too.

    Note that the D:45-6 greater vault enemies are much higher level than typical monsters. These are super-dangerous enemies that you're trying to fight, challenging for any character. These are, of course, optional (though the tension room of ancient wyrms will net you a bazillion xp if you can clear it). Most players avoid greater undead vaults entirely, even on really buff characters.
    Hoping to win with every class, doomed. Archer, Barbarian, Bard, Beastfighter, Druid, Elementalist, Farmer, Fighter, Monk, and ULE Priest down.

    You probably shouldn't be trying to take on a GUV, Mindcrafters are really not built for taking on Emperor Liches. In fact, nobody without +radius Acid Ball and reliable confusion resistance is particularly built for taking on Emperor Liches.

    The dragons on the other hand should not be an insurmountable problem. Confusion is very effective against them IIRC. Can you do some shenanigans with a wand of teleport and greater mental blasting a bunch of them through a wall, then leaving the level to recharge? All my potions of booze went on teleport wand charges in my last MC game.

    You're right that you're primarily a melee class. You don't have Find Weakness which sucks massively. You should wish for it if you haven't already. Slaying weapons are a big deal too; Wyrmlance is generated almost every game, have you found it?

    It sounds like your DV and HP are both a bit low. You probably need more levels, more toughness, better gear. Have you done any smithing? Smithed gear will probably help a lot.

    That guy could melee just about everything except Fisty.

    Oh, and you can use Mindcraft on corrupted monsters, I used it to clear the eyes in the Mana Temple and caught a good few chaos monsters alongside them. The corruption from it really didn't seem that bad.

    Anyone with a stock of unead slaying ammo and ranged weapon skill 11+ can take on GUV and emperor liches.

    I've got half that and I blew through my ammo. I goofed pretty hard there. I let them stat drain me pretty bad. I might post my info later tonight(leaving for work soon) and see what to do next. I've got a handful of potions if exchange. Maybe Ill dip some rings or something. This is definitely a run full of bad luck and player errors.

    Are you low on Willpower? You really need it at high values to punch with Greater Telekinetic Blast.

    IMHO Mindcrafters are probably the best class to tackle a GUV. Provided you have a large power point pool.

    Dragons are eating you alive? Confuse them and tank in melee or use low-level mind-frying attacks. Takes time but it is stupidly safe.

    I honestly enjoy clearing, say, greater fire vaults with MCs. You walk inside, and start spamming Confusion Wave + Mental Wave. Recharge by reading scrolls of power.

    Also, you have Gemology. If you are willing to spend some time, dig up some shit for power crystals.
    I like my women like my ADOM loot - hunted as treasure and in extra quantity.

    Totally agree, no other class can assassinate a summoner type like mindcrafter! My recommendation would be to go to the GUV with tons of will boosting items/potions equipped/drunk, drink some boost mana potions, read scrolls of power and wreak havoc on those liches.

    As for the wyrms, wands of far slaying is a cheap but very very effective method if you have a good bounce zone.

    Wands of poison are also very effective against wyrms. I used it on D50 when a balor summoned karmic wyrms and I didn't want to get doomed and I had run out of slaying ammo. 10/10 would do again.

    Also, IIRC (and in my experience) higher CoC levels especially D40+ have been rescaled in danger. I tend to avoid all tension rooms. They are just a YASD waiting to happen.

    Well here's what I've got. As stated I screwed up pretty bad. I got stat drained *HARD* so I'm in rough shape atm. Before I had Wi around 30 or so, and Str at about 40. Toughness was around 33 as well. I'm still strained but I was unburdened before, so I need to filter through my crap and drop some junk. On the plus side, I am carrying a pretty large selection of crap if I can figure out the best way to proceed from here. I stocked up on everything I could carry before I plunged. That said, I'm also past 90 days and have taken a ridiculous number of turns. Being trapped in the TOmb of High kings without climbing gear will do that. I leveled up almost 10 times before I got out of there.

    At this point, I see two options. Either I do a tactical retreat and maybe go do the library to pick up some utility spellbooks for bookcasting since I've torn through a lot of wands of wonder, or I press on straight for the the end, and hope my huge piety reserves can carry me through. I'm also thinking I should dip some rings since I've got a couple potions of exchange. And now that I think about it, those comments about scrolls and crystals make me think I should be smart and bless them all. Not sure why I didn't before.

    Sorry if I'm being overly verbose. It would just be a shame to lose this guy considering how hard he's been kicked around and he's still standing. I've had WAY better characters get destroyed long before this, and my only win was a wizard with bracers of war on him at level 8. So yeah, I'm pretty attached to this guy. It's been a crazy run so far.
