Default Flaka, Dwarven Farmer, Avatar of Balance

It's been a long time since I've last done a successful ultra and I'm happy with this one! Farmers may be meant as one of the "gimmick" or "challenge" classes, but in my experience, after a rough start, they can become very powerful later on in the game as both archers and fighters - however, especially so when they are precrowned early on with Thunderstroke!

Flaka started out as your average lawful dwarven farmer before all the combat she experienced rendered her mentally unstable somewhere in the Unremarkable Dungeon, which led to her kicking a blink dog in frustration - the start of her descent to ChAoS. Before she exited the dungeon, she sacrificed a load of monsters to Abbad-Undar and pleaded to the chaotic dwarven deity for a useful item. The god responded very generously by granting her the obsidian quarrel. Well, Thunderstroke is one of those game-changer artifacts now, although Flaka had trouble using it early on due to low (~14 when maxed out) Dexterity. Thus, melee still was her primary means of taking down monsters for a good while. (Later on, as potions started to improve her Dx, and the air orb and the ring of the master cat came into play, Thunderstroke was used more and more.)

Overall though, this game was just destined for a victory. Getting the components for Gaab'Baay was hard, but a lucky final dip in the VDDL got me a RoDS (after all pools were drained). The scroll of danger was very late, around level 40 or so - it was actually the most elusive item. Flaka had already spent quite a lot of time in the Blue Dragon Caves and got tons of PoGAs, PoUHs, even some PoCCs and other loot (including an AoLS that was mostly used as a form of insurance against carelessness, e.g. in the bug temple, and a pair of 7LBs), but no scroll of danger or any wishes. Eventually, after all potions of exchange and a lot of potions of raw chaos were used with no success, Flaka wandered into one of the random dungeons and a common monster luckily dropped it early on! So, that was a good stroke of luck. The AMW was fed to the ratling because with the bracers of resistance she had found quite early on in the game, it was unnecessary - and I had thought I'd be able to get done with Gaab'baay at around level 20. I forgot that I needed to provide quite a few more items at that point, so that was a waste... but not much of a loss, since Flaka used a Scroll of Defense-boosted black dragon scale mail for most of the game anyway. One fun touch was that the first corruption received (after Hooves and Poison Hands, which were cleaned) were stilts - one of the most OP corruptions and one that helped make Flaka a lot more mobile.

The ACW was not hard either. With no dragon slaying ammo of any note, Flaka had to resort to using Thunderstroke, which seemed very slow - then a lucky crit slew the Wyrm right down from "slightly injured", and that was that. She even had no source of invisibility at that point, which meant quite the slog through the fire minions.

The Far Slayer was found from a surge of power - a berserker king hiding in the Air Temple. He thought he could protect his treasure there - he was wrong. The combination of Far Slayer, Thunderstroke and the air orb was simply unstoppable for a good part of the game. Oh, and the farmer class power that automatically trains physical skills? That was awesome. Basically, all the physical stats seem to be gradually pushed up to their potential, no matter how high. Flaka eventually became quite the superwoman, and nothing seriously threatened her. For most of the game, a combination of Big Punch and a tower crystal/eternium shield was used, though later she switched to the rune-covered trident, both for the Dx boost and to start training polearms in anticipation of the TotRR.

The guaranteed greater vault in the CoC was one of undead, so it was ignored. Later on in the game, though, after receiving the artifacts of chaos, Flaka finally repented her ways and became a disciple of Clamgaddin. At that point, the ice queen opened up as an option, and the greater vault that was found in the FGJC was one of giants. The most important item found there was Ayla's Holy Scarf, which made Flaka even more tanky.

Finally, the uselessness gift was the Bracers of War. As if I hadn't already been powerful enough! Soon, Flaka entered the ChAoS plane after drinking all her boost potions. After removing every corruption that could be removed, she whacked Andy with the TotRR for a few turns before realizing it wouldn't be a very good idea - despite the level 50 class power, corruption was quite rapid. Instead, the amulet of free action was swapped for an amulet of light, and 49 blessed humanoid slaying quarrels took care of the fight quite easily. I actually had a hurthling merchant ultra candidate recently that died in melee against Andy. This is a mistake I've avoided now. Really, this is an important point I must stress: meleeing Andor Drakon is a luxury for hyper-OP barbarians. For all other classes, blessed slaying ammo is the way to go. Far Slayer made that even easier for me, but yeah.

    Anyway...

Does that work in Andy? If so that's hilarious. I never thought HE would be vulnerable of all people...

I don't know actually, I didn't remember the potion being able to do that. I thought it just did damage. Well, Andy's still pretty nasty in melee, and let's not forget all the stat drains. No regrets with missile combat.
