    Default Khelavaster, Pools, and decisions

So, first thing: I've never won the game before, and I'm certainly not going to an Ultra ending on my first try.

I reached Khelevaster on my level 16 human Paladin, crowned Neutral. This is the farthest I've gotten, and I wasn't sure if I should try to drink from pools to get a Wish and save him. I decided not to, because I wasn't going for an Ultra ending and also because I didn't want to lose my intrinsics:

    • Fire Immunity
    • Shock Immunity or Resistance (Blessed Lightning Lizard corpse; unsure yet)
    • Acid Resistance
    • Poison Resistance
    • Teleport Control
    • Teleportitis

Teleport Control & Teleportitis are definitely godsends for me so far, and I do have a spellbook of teleportation I'm saving to read for when I get 100 Literacy. I'm just curious from veterans if that was a good decision to make. I'm not sure if I shot myself in the foot for later or if it's not a big deal.

You cannot loose immunities in pools. Poison resistance is easy to replace, acid resistance might be a problem (unless you have surviving ants). Teleportis is almost impossible to restore, so if you like it, not drinking is a good choice. Humans can also be screwed badly by pool aging.

Rewards for saving Khelly are good but not essential... unless you are really low on chaos removal, but then there is a Library and Bug Temple.

I wouldn't bother. You're in good shape, and if you end up needing SoCR, you can find them elsewhere.
Hoping to win with every class, doomed. Archer, Barbarian, Bard, Beastfighter, Druid, Elementalist, Farmer, Fighter, Monk, and ULE Priest down.

    Yeah, just let Kelly die.
Also, since this is the furthest you've ever been, unlike the other veterans, I'd advise against either bug temple or library in search of chaos removal.
Those areas are potentially deadly. I'd go for regular win, check casino on your way down for scrolls and potions and you should be fine.
As for teleport spellbook, I would try to read it once just before leveling up. It will train both learning and literacy if you're successful so you might in the long run increase the skill faster.
It's good to read books continuously with semi-casters like paladins, to train that literacy for future use with more demanding spells.

Yes, let him die. Worst case scenario is that you'll end up having nasty corruptions that you cannot remove, but it's very unlikely that you'll die of corruption in a regular game.
If you happen to get a wish elsewhere, getting an amulet for Khelly is always a good option. For post-Khelly wishes, I recommend the following ones:

Amulet of life saving, for yourself
    Girdle of giant strength
    Pairs of seven league boots
Bracers of regenerations (note the last 's' to make the game understand that you want several)
    {colour} dragon scale mail
    Scrolls of corruption removal

The only reason why I'd consider pool drinking is paralyzation and death ray resistance. Some late game monsters are very nasty in that matter and especially with DR you might not get a chance to react. So it's either intrinsics, lucky artifacts or AMW and amulet of free action. But yeah, have at least that blink dog corpse stashed in some store first. And have some means of removing dooming.

Agreeing with the posters above. Losing teleport control would be especially bad, that's one of the worst possible disasters. Poolsipping is risky bussiness without a plan to recover from loss of teleport control. And yeah, in this case I wouldn't bother.

PS: the easiest sources of chaos removal are the one scroll in the HMV, the potions from the druid and (with luck) the dwarven mystic. And the unicorn late game. Make sure you get those, and you'll rarely need more. As long as you use PoCC to get rid of the really bad corruptions like stiff muscles, you should be ok.

You steal a scroll labelled HITME. The orc hits you.

Assuming he is still alive I would just delay speaking with him for now. You may luck out and find an AoLS in the Water Dragon Cave.

Personally I wouldn't use a wish on girdle of giant strength, they usually get destroyed in a matter of minutes.

Items in the WDC are unidentified, I think, so it'd be a big risk picking up every rusty amulet in the place hoping one might be AoLS.

You'll probably get your life saved more by wearing the ankh.
