First win in over 6 years. Got the Steam version two weeks ago and wanted to see how long it would take me to beat the game. First time I ever bothered smithing or getting the RCT. This monk was planning to use RCT as the endgame weapon from the beginning.
Early game weapon was a Mithril Quarterstaff. BM had Elven Chain Mail, which was nice. I hate the AF, since it is terrible, terrible design to threaten players with tedium and getting whittled to death, but this guy can just kick around the problem.
I did all the smithing while level 14-15 to get ready for the endgame dive. I did not know smithing was so easy and effective, even with it in the 40s-60s. I got Iron Crown as my gift. DF had its standard 1.2.0 garbage and Long Sting. I have no idea how the Frost Queen's Domain works, as the wiki is somewhat hard to follow. I didn't want to risk this guy on something unfamiliar, so I just killed a few Snow Golems to get 16 and get on with the game.
No way to breathe water or orange potions got me to head to the ID. I found a blink dog pretty quickly and hoped that was enough to do Blup's quest. Turns out it was, as two teles and one prayer got the job done. ToEF was a joke with RCT, even with no disablers.
I headed to the Casino, and the addition of corruption while playing slots makes the whole thing so much better, as you have to decide what is worth getting. I bought some consumables and headed down to get the final 3 orbs. First time I have ever gotten RotMC. The guardians were pretty easy, but I had to give two Greater Titans the slip that were just wandering around and shooting those infamous eternium quarrels. Vault was giants, and there was a GM threat room on the same level. I ran back to Casino and got the magic mapping scroll and luckily the stairs were not in the threat room.
No potions of uselessness this time, and I got to use all those sis to get to D:50.
I was level 24 with a WoD coming in, so I knew I had to kill one balor and then I would be home free. Luckily the level was diggable, so I headed to the bottom and level and cleared out the mobs waiting for a balor to bother heading over. He was behind me and crit me down to 25 HP in melee. Then I remembered I should not be bad at this game and then properly hack and back'd him dead. Level 25 meant I could WoD the first lever, swap across the main room, dig the wall, swap to lever, WoD, tele, done.
I couldn't do Unicorn Quest before leaving. This should be doable if you have saved the world already.
