Default How to rob the Merchant Guild?

    Hi

I remember killing Shwarzzahn back when I was lvl 50 and had the Trident of the Red Rooster, he still managed to take around 35% of my HP with him which is not something even Emperor Moloch managed.

Now I got a lvl 25 mist elven Weaponsmith aiming for an ultra ending, just made my way to Casino and I wouldn't want to use it that much. I've been comparatively hard-pressed on equipment this run. The best weapon I have (left) currently is a murderous orcish spear (+10, 1d8+10) and I couldn't find a single bow until after I killed Rehetep. Meanwhile scroll of the finder revealed to me that the Guild has Sun's Messenger, Venom's Mantle and Wyrmlance all of which I would quite like to have.

Does anyone have an easy-ish way to deal with the Wyrm? Thing is that I have the Unpick Axe which allows me to sort of forget about the golems but as far as I can tell from exploration mode, he doesn't seem to care much about, say, thrown potions of raw chaos (which I assume would allow me to djinni strangle him, and 4 artifacts and that much gold IS worth a wish). It said "Nothing happens" when I threw the potions at him, does that mean nothing will happen at all or does it take more than... 14 cursed? Think I hit like half. Zapping blessed wands of far slaying for around 140 PP (which is more or less what the actual character has) and ressurecting with AOLS doesn't work either, he just shrugs it off.

I could try to stack fire resistances and shoot him down hoping he'll stay at the far end of the corridor trying to burn me, I'm however not convinced I would be able to damae him at all without dragon slaying ammo, which I only have 18 quarrels of. And I've been levelling bows.

What would it take? How much PV would I need to fight him hand to hand? 90-ish? and the rune-covered trident probably? That would beat the point of trying to get the items as early as possible, making it a murderfest, and not an actual heist, I guess.

    Short: phase dagger.

    Longer:

I've cleaned that place once and it's a rough place indeed.
I was lvl 40+ had a truckload of xheal potions available, acid resistance(or immunity not sure), very high dv/pv and a LOT of hps (think it was an assassin).
I tried with dragon slayers but didn't manage to take him down so I swapped for a smithed/scrolled phase dagger and that did the trick, ie basically melee him with phase dagger.

As a weaponsmith you can do the same, you probably want a lot more levels for hp buffer, work some on that mist elven toughness and find a good forge to smith things up.

There are probably other ways but thats how I did it.

Too bad the merchant's guild is not willing to sell them.

Seems like an interesting quest source - they will let you into specific rooms if you do X for them

I know right, the Wyrm even says "come back if you have interesting deals to propose".

So I did manage to clean the Guild out. I went and robbed the Casino thanks to a Gorgon, which allowed me for a first "serious" round of smithing which just about doubled my PV (25 -> 49) and gave me a barbed eternium halberd. Then I headed to do the Ice Queen quests for the potions and found a GUV in Frost Giant Jarl Caves. As I was fighting through the undead I found the Far Slayer which very conviniently solved the problem of only having quarrels for dragon slayers. After hitting lvl 30 I left the GUV mid-fight because I remembered that I wouldn't be able to do the Maze otherwise.

Anyway, after doing a GUV, the Maze and the Rift i came back with lvl 32, Far Slayer and lvl 7 in crossbows (which isn't amazing, but not bad either). At the cost of about 6 Mana I used the unpick axe to make a corridor locking me and the Wyrm inside until one of us dies, equipped a blessed ring of ice, poisoned dragon slaying quarrels and well... started shooting. The wyrm was spewing fire as it was approaching and it wasn't in a hurry either. By the time it came up to me for a melee attack, it was down to a quarter of HP, bleeding and poisoned. So despite one round of melee attacks taking 3/4 of my HP in one go, the Wyrm got scared the next turn and I finished it off, getting over a level worth of experience for it.

Took me about 35 quarrels to end the beast.

Funny thing is, I returned to the "crime scene" after getting Wyrmlance and Venom's Mantle and killed everybody else too, not forgetting to slow myself down this time (which almost killed me since great grey scribe shoots energy blasts that are comparable to ACW's). I'm pretty sure I got around five levels (31-36) for this location. And I be damned if killing all those Scribes isn't Matrix-style cinematic.

P.S. I guess using potions of boost would make the fight much easier but I'm saving them up for Andy, I never saw him in action so better safe than sorry.
