    Default Strange happenings with fairy dragon pet.

    I won adom a few times more than 10 years ago. I have adom R60 on my computer, but al my serious playing is much longer ago.
    I never got around to using pets for anything, but now I rolled a candle-born gray elven bard with 4 talents.
    My seven league boots lasted through the village dungeon, puppy cave and halfway through the UD.
    Because the character was really pathetic, most of the killing was done by my fairy dragon pet. It became very experienced quickly.
    I let it play around for a time in the big room while harvesting herbs, and took it through the animated forest, it cleaned out the water
    temple and darkforge. By the time it had done that it had 12 attacks, and seemed completely invulnerable. Kherab was the last one
    that took more than 1 turn to kill.
    I then decided to take it to the frost giant caves and there it became completely insane. It seemed to get another level from anything
    over there, including baby white dragons and fire lizards. Finally it had 36 attacks per round, doing a maximum of 580 damage/hit.
    The fire creature vault had skullcrusher, vanquisher, bugbiter and True Aim. With True Aim i finally could get some xp for myself.
    This went ok for a while but then on the bottom level of the frost giant caves:

    You miss Elfbane, the fairy dragon. The uncursed silvery arrow "True Aim: (+10,15d5) returns! You manage to catch it Elfbane, the
    fairy dragon , invokes an incantation. Something critically hits you. Something critically hits you. You die...
    Your amulet suddenly glows in a silvery light. You have been resurrected! Your amulet crumples to dust!
    I was at below -400 hp before resurrection.
    Somehow it teleported me and then placed 2 critical hits.

    Luckily an animated tree had dropped a second amulet of life saving.

    The Ice queen says the quest is not done, but I'm sure Elfbane already killed Haggar.
    I can't find anything with a wand of monster detection and I'd rather not explore this level any further.

    Elfbane has 250 DV. Something in the fire creature vault slightly wounded it, I cast cure light wounds about
    20 times on it, and it did basically nothing. Elfbane must have a few thousand HP.
    At least it didn't get faster. Its speed is still 122.

    I suppose I won't be completing this quest. I suppose there's no way of taming the fairy dragon again.

    I have one wish. I think I'll wish for concentration. I'm good at learning spells but mana regenration is very slow.
    Another pair of seven league boots would be nice as well.
    Maybe I'll explore after I can cast teleport much more often as well as invisibility.

    Yes, that is a classic mistake that is easy to make when using pets, been there done that, had the pet golem that you can get from a statue and I was clearing out junk mobs in mana temple and an incorrect targeting poked him and he insta killed me.
    At certain levels pets become very very crazy, I would not be surprised if a pet can have combat stats that outclass Andor (I don't think they can enter the portal however).

    Another one is when pets get very hurt from trap, vortix, tough monster or poison (poison is really bad for a lot of pets) and then turns on you to promptly oneshot you which is more common in early parts of the game.

    Quest kills does only count if YOU kill the monster, poison and bleeding to death counts if you inflicted the poison/bleed.
    Same goes for align and special quests, if your pet kills stuff, for example dwarves, cats, farmers etc that is perfectly fine.
    You can even have strong pets kill shopkeepers without repercussions , well it won't ever restock and you can't sell there anymore and that can be bad.

    The problem is that the quest wasn't ended even if Haggar was dead. It doesn't work that way with other quests. I let my pet kill Hotzenplotz for example, and the sherriff
    said something like "Hip hip hurray!. Hotzenplotz is dead!" but didn't give a reward. The Ice queen still wanted me to kill Haggar and didn't assign the second quest.
    I've since been killed by Waldenbrook, and have resurrected this character briefly. I was only killed once more before I managed to kill it with magic missiles, using teleportation and blessed scrolls of power. It's breath wasn't so bad, maybe 50 HP with double resistance. It also did the teleport and then kill thing again. Haggar really isn't around anymore.

    Meanwhile a new fairy dragon just blasted my new gray elven bard to 1 HP with an ice breath, when it killed an outlaw leader and didn't watch what was in the background.

    The easy solution: If you don't like ADOM pets or can't figure out how to use them, then don't play a pet class. Otherwise if you suspect a bug then report it in the proper section.

    IIRC, roving raider quest works like that... I think it is unique vs version of monster... haggar is just version of frost jarl (raider lord is not 'unique' due to being wishable or just by not being in set location?), so quest gets check on kill. For uniques there is a simple check if the assigned unique is alive (raw steel quests for example - do not care who kills).

    It would be better if all quests worked in the same way (personally I don't care which one).
    So far rolled 15 casters with RoDS and shamelessly killed them within 200 turns. For eternium glory!
    (after 15 I stopped counting...)
