What's your best non-artifact weapon?

I usually go with a combination of shield and spear, and in the puppy cave one time, I found a stone spear of devastation and I used it all the way through the game. I don't know if I ever found anything better. Better than any eternium spear in the game. I ID almost everything I find that might be useful (amazing how often you find artifacts that way), but don't think I got anything better.
