Default Can you whip yourself to death?

Just found a black whip of extinction and I was thinking of using it to get to L+ but i'm not sure if the flagellation damage goes off of the whip used or if it's predetermined and the same with every whip.

It’s based on the base damage die of the whip- whip of slaughtering does 1d37 dmg, regular whip does 1d3 scourge does 1d3, whip of devastation does 1d3 etc. and yes you can die from it.

Interestingly, there is some special protection from killing yourself with self-flagellation. As long as you have non-negative PV, you can only die from self-flagellation if you do it while at 1 HP.

1d30 - the 1d37 weapon is staff of smiting.

whip of devastation does 1d3 etc.
5d3 - extra dice from affixes are included in the self-flagellation damage.
