The answer is 3 non-shrugs - took maybe 6 shots. Wands are crazy powerful.

A more complicated question than you might think. Wand damage scales with level, the chance of a shrug goes down with level, vulnerability multiplier is random with some of the extra damage depending on the monster's PV, and of course the HP of the wyrm could vary quite a bit, especially when comparing a greater vault monster vs a random spawn.

Expected # of charges required = HP / ((0.4 + 0.005 * character_level) * ((33.7 + 1.4 * character_level) * 3 + wyrm_PV * 2))
Level 26 character vs a normal great red wyrm: 525/(0.53 * (70.1 * 3 + 30 * 2)) ~= 3.7
Level 20 character vs greater vault great red wyrm: 1273/(0.5 * (61.7 * 3 + 34 * 2)) ~= 10.0

That's strange given that I was a troll around level 19/20 and definitely shot it less than 10 times. I was surprised because the ancient red dragons seemed to put up more of a fight.
