    Default Troll Mindcrafter Archmage

    Team Soirana closed the gate and returned to his people, having obtained ultimate arcane power.

    Strategies employed:

    1. No save-scumming of course (take that, Blasphemous! ;-P).
    2. Shop talents to increase the chance of a book shop showing up. Got lucky with one in PC:4 on the first try, but would have started a new character if I didn't find one early-on.
    3. Best strategy for getting the book seems to be putting some magma on the door of the shop, and then swimming in it until all carried unpaid books are incinerated. Runs up a debt to the merchant guild, but doesn't anger the shopkeeper or interfere with restocking.
    4. Hit maximum XP by book-casting Fireball around a doored-off fungoid cave pool.
    5. Initial 8 Wish knowledge was obtained from an early potion of wonder. Had some plans for using the potion shop and a serious potion of exchange engine, but this was thankfully not really necessary, and I ended up wishing for potions of wonder to buff the knowledge up to 100.
    6. Increased maximum power points by 9999 by waiting in the wilderness with Mana Battery and a bunch of magic staves.
    7. Archmaging commenced on Silvernight in the Borderland Settlement, using wished-for crystals of power, potions of water, and potions of boost mana/willpower to sustain PPs. Effectively extended the length of Silvernight with a bunch of speed wishes.

    Also, since this is a troll, did you get enough potions of longevity to true berserk wished-for ghost kings in SMC?

    And of course Grond's "make an Archmage, use it to make an essentially-perfect character" playtime is still faster than my "close the gate" playtime. This is really neat.

    I am wondering: why troll and why mindcrafter?

    This might be dumb, but why didn't -- as the number of fungoids you killed got higher and higher during that hour of fireballing -- the XP for each kill drop too low for you to level? I'm pretty sure that the fire vulnerability is why you were able to keep killing them even though they were presumably getting tougher.

    Any reason not to sacrifice miscellani and use some prayers which give full PP, as part of the archmaging? My guess is that you didn't because of how *many* times you had to wish for crystals of power, so that using the prayers wouldn't have actually saved many wish-actions. Is that right?

    I got a bit lazy/bored at the end. Proper way to go about that would be getting something like 2000 PV probably (armor-punching chance goes down the more PV you have).

    Historical reasons mostly. It's the worst race for spell learning, and the worst class for spell learning, although it's arguably not the worst race/class combo for archmaging.

    They level up faster than the XP penalty can keep up with apparently. Values for the high-end fungoids were over a million by the end.

    The cost for the prayer increases the more you ask. It could be useful for getting the engine rolling, but you can't rely on it indefinitely.

    Scrolls and crystals of power scale with the amount of PP your PC has and recover roughly 30% with each use so long term, they are the most reliable for an archmage.
