    Default first time in ToEF

    well, it was fun while it lasted.

    what actually killed me was the loads of xp required for trolls... ran out of things to do without getting bored.all other dungeons beside darkforge were ridiculously easy with that much damage. i also was afraid of going further down the CoC because i had no potions of deafness and found no beehive.

    that ring of regeneration was actually found in the ToEF itself; it helped alot. i could take about 10 of the monsters at the elemental altar in a row, then simply ran away, regenerated, rinse and repeat... it didn't even look that bad against ACW until he suddenly hit me 2 or 3 times and one hit went critical...

    he was the character with whom i've come the farthest so far... (not in the level department, though )
    i think i won't be playing trolls now for a while although i'll miss carrying along just about everything i find...

    If you'd managed to get to level 18 and got your climbing up to 100 (through Yergius) you could have dropped into the Rift for some extra exp and normally some quite good items too (you were obviously lacking on equipment). Also as far as I know you're guaranteed a bee hive before the banshee level, so you could have gone further down the CoC.

    Fighting unarmed against the ACW is pretty crazy I must say. A beastfighter might get away with that against other enemies, but you've no chance against a big boss like that. If you're gonna do that you at least have to weaken him up with wands of acid beforehand (usually it's best to have elementals between you and the Wyrm, since they'll shrug off the bolts whilst he keeps getting damaged). Throwing a potion of blindness or confusion or a cursed invis potion would have also made him much more vulnerable.

    Oh, and you had 100 Herbalism, but your Dex was only 13? You should really have gotten hold of some moss of mareilon to improve this (uncursed or blessed moss used in the tool slot will increase your dexterity over time).

    Oh, no... this one was winnable! I just got my first win with a troll who, at this stage of the game, was weaker than this. He was only level 24 when he won and left the Drakalor Chain.

    I think the best way to take out the ACW is a blessed fully charged wand of cold. He'll shrug off most of them but you'll take him out in the end because it really hurts when it hits him. It doesn't look like you had a fireproof blanket, but if you explore the ToEF beforehand and find all the stairs, encounter the ACW, then run off and get the wand, you should be able to get back to him and blast away before the wand burns up.

    I wouldn't give up on trolls. Melee characters are weaker in mid game, but I personally think they have an edge everywhere else as long as you're good with bows as well.

    Wands of cold are actually not that good against the ACW. He is not in any way weak against cold (though he is immune to fire), so a wand of cold will hurt the other denizens of the tower really badly whilst not harming the Wyrm a great deal. This is why I suggested wands of acid - they do much higher damage, without killing off a buffer of enemies as quickly.

    Like mentioned, you need more equipment. If you can somehow help it, dont go into ToEF without a fproof blanket, ring or ice, and some means of healing (since regen isnt always enough). ID will help you get those, but you risk wasting lots of time looking for them. My best advice is to get huge amounts of money (and by that, i dont mean casino, but a certain easier and an earlier way) and pay Garth to train your toughness (and next priority is definitely learning because it will help later on) as soon as you can. I remember doing it in an early game, and by the time I got to deeper CoC, my stats were still raising. So it's never too early to get that training from Garth.

    And Grey makes sense. Acid's only downside is that it destroys so many items on ground. If you train your Toughness a bit, you will be able to melee the whole temple without using any crazy tactics whatsoever.

    So I had more than enough fireproof blankets, not a single item burned up. I wonder if that crystal plate mail would have been incinerated?

    Crazy... of course I am... I actually got him to moderately wounded, and if I hadn't stupidly underestimated the chance & strength of critical hits, I think it would have been possible to kill him that way using my healing potions (not a smart way, but a very trollish way )

    I got those 2 corruptions quite soon prior to the fight, had 25 before that. Should've fixed that before the fight, so I guess you're right anyway.

    Oh man, some serious errors here... Adamantium and crystal don't burn (neither does mithril or eternium for that matter), so you could have easily had another 14 PV from the girdle, helm and armour. Also I think you should have worn the ring of slaying instead of regeneration and relied on spenseweed and potions for healing. It's a common tactic in the tower to keep hitting the Wyrm and heal whenever you get to about half HP. If you have over 200 HP he normally can't get in enough hits to kill you in one round.

    I got a question! why does it say 'plain' near almost every item in your inventory? It looks like it's instead of 'uncursed'. I never get this.

    You are able to change the "uncursed" term into something else by tweaking the adom.cfg file.
