    Default safe converting altars

    I never do that, so i am afraid, im lvl 21 archer L+ precrowned twice few levels back, now i got very close or about, got also 40K of money in my backpack

    get some gray altar in early coc (one level below bigroom)
    would like to convert it but really not get cursed or worse

    may i do it safely? - and how

    Make sure no monsters are around.
    Stand on altar.
    Sacrify 10-20k gold in one go.

    If it's a bigger room or you want to be extremely safe then use wand of door creation around the altar so no monster have any chance at all to spot you.
    It's only Neutral monsters who can sacc you on a neutral altar.

    Im more afraid of being bolted by the god or something like that...
    would do it safe and just convert an altar
    i liost to high level chars of such mistake when god gets engry and
    doomed me and destroyed my best precious equipment..

    That could happen if you sacrified to small amount, got alignment changed to N then the L god will get angry.
    Also before crowning if you were on extremely low piety you could get worn items destroyed/cursed when sacrifying (in those cases its safe with live sacrify).

    try luring a monster in the altar, the higher the DL the better, if you are afraid your equipment might be cursed or destroyed, leave it somewhere near, if you want to use gold use large amounts, like 100k gp just to be safe

    Just sac 5k gold, it always works for me.
    5k is a very safe amount, it's doable with 3k but 5k is optimal and there's no risk.
    If you're really afraid of any divine retribution, unequip and drop ALL items except gold and one artifact, preferably with shock immunity.
    That way, no matter what the deity does, your bases are covered.

    if you dont have any neutral piety, then the safest way of converting altar is to sacc gold = 500 * character lvl + 500 on the altar. in your case it is 11000 gold! if you have a lot of neutral piety (precrowned N etc.), then things are infinitely more difficult.

    I used 11k and worked fine, no problem, though i would like to use 5k if it may work too
    anyway im pleased, got white alter i neeed

    ps first in my lige i get a bit of smithing and now my archer is like

    Cloaks are made of material not iron. Same for girdle of carrying.
    You'd need scrolls of protection to increase DV/PV on those.

    I use always the same methode and always work, sacc beasts that you would sacrifice on your own altar (ex. I play always neutral, so sacrifice a chaotic monster on a chaotic altar convert the altar to neutral. The same on lawful altars, if you are neutral sacc a chaotic convert to neutral). Don't know if it can fail (anyway there is a struggle between gods), I know that never failed for me.

    P.S.
    Thanks to some good advice and after the LONG battle finally the Gate is Closed..!..now don't know if finish the game or let him run to level 50 (a lot of place are still to be visited), but this char is starting to get me bored, and I want a victory in the hi-score, so I think I will post the final results before he get killed in some stupid way after all this..!
