    Default Too sad...

    I am so sad! And not because of soccer, but because of this STUPID DEATH!

    The story: My very very versatile (but somewhat fragile) paladin for the first time in my adom career brought down that car lord. The last time I met the cat lord, he ripped me to pieces while fighting in blind rage. This time, I gave him a quite long and heroic fight. In that very long passage I webbed him, while retreating. I used up all my humanoid slaying ammo, my wands of magic missile, my sling bullets of cracking... then I put on 2 rings of slaying, archery gloves and gulped down 3 potions of boost dexterity in the process, always shooting him with my best arrows. After about the 15th hit, he still did not fall, but the corridor was nearing to an end. Then, only one square before he could reach me (he surely would have shredded me), I managed to get him to become afraid, run away. So I waited a bit, in order to let him gain some distance, and messed his flight path with webs. Then I gave him the final blow with some dragon slaying ammo. Man, I was celebrating, and I was feeling invincible! and died on the very same level, perhaps 100 turns later, by underestimating the fire giant - instead of praying at around 90 HP, I tried "cure serious wounds". It hit me critically, and that was it.

    I had a ring of djinni summoning, only did not use it because it lacked of ideas.

    Sad death, you had a good selection of spells available. Always sad to get killed that far into a game.

    If i may say so, however, 29/15 DV/PV is quite low for D:35. I think Executor/Best shield you can get would've been a much better call for no real sacrifice in damage, instead of the eternium 2HS.

    Did that casino loot just get generated very poorly?
    Just looking over your gear, that helm of waterbreathing is about as useful as a metal cap for the 99% of the game you don't spend underwater. In the future, you may want to try (insert higher metal) cap and use Wbre only when you need it.

    Other suggestions to improve DV/PV include replacing Amulet of Health with ankh, and using RotHK.

    Thanx for the tips and the condolences. You are very right about that helmet - however my only alternative was a helmet of teleportation [0 +4], that I actually used most of the game. I only took it off to get the ring slot free that I otherwise would have to use for the teleport control.

    About the DV/PV - that was really an error I commited: I used the mummy wrapping to see that cat lord. My other armors all were very damaged. Then, I did use that two hander, because the other weapons (before I used rolfs companion and saviour) did not kick very much. Then I forgot to equip the girdle of adamantium [0 +5] after killing the cat lord.
    I realized these very bad numbers of PVDV only after my deaths. Not being used to such vulnerability, I wasted the char eventually by not caring.

    However, I will return!

    If I recall correctly, the cat lord level doesn't allow teleport, so you could have used the helm without the ring of teleport control.

    Man, Executer slays humanoids! That and the shield would've given you a MUCH better time than the two-hander. Not to mention the fire giant wouldn't have hit you so easily...

    You cast cure serious wounds? Whilst NOT on Coward? Very aggressive by the looks of it. With no shield either. Sorry man, but that's a very basic mistake. Always remember to change tactics settings! And yeah, Executor would have killed it far quicker than the two-hander, and the added shield would have kept you a hell of a lot safer... Congrats on managing the cat lord - always a hard fight - but you can never let your guard down in this game.

    You are right. Well, I was on normal tactics, but I just did not care at that moment - it was one of those moments celebrating and feeling invincible because of the accomplishment. Pretty obviously, I died out of errors. However, I was not aware of committing so many at a time... merde. It was 4AM, and I played far over my concentration capacities - yet another mistake, I know. I just wanted to clear the fucking level out, see what's next, and then go for the rift...

    Furthermore, I greater-identified the Executor, and read about "grands bad luck" or so, and put it away. I did not know that it is such an awesome weapon.

    Well, any one-hander is safer than the two-handed sword because you can have the huge DV bonus from a shield. Executor is particularly nice for having a huge damage output and slaying humanoids - would have taken the fire giant down in one hit most likely. I've taken down the cat lord with just a few hits with it before (whilst it was paralysed of course).

    Just a note on executor, i always use it.

    It grants bad luck, but its no dooming. All that happens is that it nudges dice rolls against you, which wearing something like an ankh can help with.

    In return for a bit of a hit on dice rolls, you get a weapon that is statistically one of the best in the game, due to its intrinsics, 1Hhanded, slaying, and high damage dice. That more than makes up for bad luck.


    I'm not too sure on the range of functions in this game that utilize a dice roll, so there may some outside repercussions. "Failing a luck check" is something i don't understand about the game really, so it might cause things like pick axes to break more, or certain scrolls (like protection/defense) to fail more readily.

    Again, it might not, this is one facet of ADOM that I really can't say for certain, but if these repercussions are minor (and i've never really had problems with using executor), you should seriously consider using it.
