Thread: Idea for ADOM Team Competition

I made more progress than I posted with my character, almost got my first precrown, but I'm elsewhere now. I'll post my character's stuff when I'm more sober.

EDIT: Decent skillset on your new PC, Gut. See if you can't keep it alive for a bit longer this time, eh? :-P

If the score system objectively was able to evaluate success, then it would be great.
But as we all know very well, it is pretty easy to close the gate and manufacture a high score

Thus, I've chosen to keep it simple and base it on gate closures, with the acquisition of Fire orb and Mana orb only being relevant in the case of a tiebreak.

I like the new points system - simple but effective.

Very jealous of gut's bard - I love that class And going without treasure hunter is a sin - why choose speed when you have SLBs?!

Seems I've made a bad reputation for myself in this contest - let's see if I can make it worse...

I want to be fast in fighting, not just running away, something a chaos minion obviously
wouldn't understand. As for your thief PC, I recommend chosing a hurthling as they have
excellent missile skills, and quite a bit of toughne... oh, wait a second. That's right, I
almost forgot, you can't chose hurthlings, can you? Oh, well in that case, have fun with
    your (duhhh!) troll : )

EDIT: I just noticed the neutral team has an excellent gray elven druid going, looks like
    a winner to me.

    Evil forces of cHaOs:
    > swimming in corpses

    !!!

We have only *one* more dead PC than you black hearted fiends!
Oh, just wait... I hope the RNG will destroy you for that : )
    *curses Grey...again*

50% more deaths in the lawful team! That's just horrendously bad, you should be ashamed of yourselves! Plus our dark knights lasted much longer than your squalid "heroes" before succumbing to death's sweet embrance. And we've kept our best classes till last. I have no doubt about who shall be the victors in this competition. If it can even be called a competition - we should just go ahead now and rename it "Chaos rules supreme".

Y'know, I was jealous of your Candle-born hurthling bard before, but everything you do seems to screw it up. First you avoid Treasure Hunter entirely, and then you sac some useful artifacts for an utterly useless one. If you had read my utterly amazing and perfect guide on how to play bards you would know that one decent crowning gift they can get before the tower is Whirlwind, and by simple logic you would know that it's especailly useful for a hurthling. But what do you do? Sac the extremely handy artifact (which is indestructable, does massive damage, and gives fire res to boot) for what you *know* is going to be a useless artifact and a 3 in 4 chance of a useless immunity. You also got rid of the black torc and Big Punch, which can both be situationally useful, quite unlike the staff. Bravo, gut, bravo. :P

*fully expects to be ripped to shreds for this*

    > Sac the extremely handy artifact

I mark this on the calander, "The day that someone referred to Whirlwind as an
extremely handy artifact". Having the 'thrown rocks' skill at 11, yeah it makes
a lot of sense to switch to slings *now*. Oh, how I pity your simple-minded,
    chaotic strategies.

    > one decent crowning gift they can get before the tower is Whirlwind

Well, let's just break this down, shall we?

    1. Boots of the divine messenger [+3, +3] {Dx+5}
+TP control (after we pool sip, this would do nicely until our next BD corpse),
-deth (frees up the armor slot against the Archmage, as SLB's aren't needed there
anyway), and -para (I hope the casino master mimic skins you for minimizing this).
Also, the +5 to De wouldn't be useful at all for a missile specialist would it?
The essence of chaos has horribly distorted your reasoning process. Convert ye
    heathen!

    2. Trusted One (+1, 5d3) [+7, +7]
-fire, -cold, -acid, -sleep, -petr, -stun, -deth, -para, -shock.
Yeah, I see no benefit here!!!!!!!!!

    3. Cloak of Oman (+2, +0) [+4, +4] {Dx+8}
+tele (handy for a PC that has early TP control, yet no wand. Opens the door for
a DF raid, among other options.) A tower ready cloak that gives +8 overall, and a
+8 to the De stat. You evil-inbred-hallucenating-moon-barker, if you can't see the
value of this, you are as blind as you are insane! : )

    4. Cat's Claw (+4, 3d3) {Dx+8}
+8 to the De stat, means extra speed, extra DV, and extra missile damage, and I give
up what, a spear!? This would be a very handy item for the tower, and everywhere
    else, actually.

    5. Whirlwind
Oh, I sacced that already, didn't I? Therefore I only had a 1/6 chance of getting
an artifact of uselessness. I blame you and your evil brethren for this unlikely
event, and will retaliate by... well, by... well I just will, that's all!

    > 3 in 4 chance of a useless immunity

*please let another one of Grey's PC's get electricuted to death* : )

    > black torc and Big Punch, which can both be situationally useful,

This isn't a cursed PC challenge, you knuckle-dragger. The only value the Torc has
in this challenge is god-food... on the other hand, go ahead and try to sell yours
to Waldenbrook : ) As for tip on Big Punch being useful, yeah, the next time I want
my DV lowered by 6, I'll be happy to have that with me. Oh, no I won't will I?
Because nobody in there *right* mind lugs around 800 stones of DV-killer!

I hope the RNG flays you alive.
"Whip me!" pleads the adom player. The rng replies... "No."

Cat's Claw is still pretty shitty, though I understand you had to laud its strengths in order to thoroughly PWNZ0R Grey (which you did, by the way, though level 5 in slings plus Whirlwind would actually surpass thrown rocks at 11, and would've granted you the use of sling bullets). 8 Dex (2 speed? 3 DV? 2 to-hit with a shitty weapon?) versus DV gain of a spear, not to mention you're going to find better stuff anyway? Much better to have Trusted One, which is excellent if you don't plan on relying on melee for damage (in which case Big Punch indeed is utterly useless). 4/5 chance of a decent artifact still is very nice...
ADOM Guides - whatever you wanted to know about playing a certain class, but have been afraid to ask!

Check out my youtube channel to see my ADOM videos, including a completed playthrough of the game. I try to give instructions, so if you want to see some place you haven't been before and get some hints on how to deal with it, this might help! There's also some other games featured there that you might find interesting.

Yeah, I was on the fence about whether to make an attempt at
making Cat's Claw <snicker> seem useful. I decided to give it a
try and see what happens : )

Cat's Claw really is a bag of poo - I can't imagine a PC in such bad straits that the Claw would be their best weapon. Painful just thinking about it.

In other news, I just kicked the Puppy's lily white ass with our Trollish Monk.
    Suck it do-gooders!
