I think of scumming as any repetitive task. The game can be beaten without
any scumming, but for myself, I like it : ) Well, some of it... I'd rather take a
stick in the eye than smith.

"Whip me!" pleads the adom player. The rng replies... "No."
I don't scum in the sense that I stair hop, but I do make use of the ID with weaker characters or something. Like the priest I started in the chaos league. She was weak and had no offensive spells...first place I went basically was the ID. It's a great place to help weaker beginning characters to find a few useful items. But when I go to the ID, I dont' stair hop. I too, search the entire floor as much as possible before moving on to the next floor. I'll do this at any point in the PC's life as well. Nothing wrong with it...that's what the ID was there for.

ADOM Guides - whatever you wanted to know about playing a certain class, but have been afraid to ask!
Check out my youtube channel to see my ADOM videos, including a completed playthrough of the game. I try to give instructions, so if you want to see some place you haven't been before and get some hints on how to deal with it, this might help! There's also some other games featured there that you might find interesting.
I first read that as "smithing is for hammers" :/
I think it's fine to farm herbs as much as you can, but deliberately making yourself sick or starving to gain more benefit from the herbs has always seemed scummy to me.
Granted this is from a person who has never done a gremlin bomb and never smithed (ever).
what is gremlin bombing? also, every time i go in the id a steel golom appears on the first level and kills me! what's that about?
I don't think that's the ID that you are entering if you always find that steel golem The ID is to the east...further to the east.
Sickness/starvation training is borderline. I think it's Dragonball Z logic if you can grow stronger by deliberately weakening yourself (though it may not be to the point of death). Then again, the benefits are somewhat limited (if you can call attributes in the mid-thirties a "limited" benefit).

Did you seriously just use Dragonball Z as an example to make your point? Doesn't that mean you automatically lose the argument?
