Default Ugh... ADOM Wierdness + My Stupidity...

Alright... So I've recently been working on a character with 15 precrowns. Slightly ludicrous, but the point is to go into the ID and dragon gold double, then level around ID40 looking for greater moloch threat room. I had a wizard that accomplished this, with 50 effectiveness magic missile and 6000 casts. Has 2 AoLS and a couple boar skulls, SoCR and PoCR aplenty. The character surfaces, alternately sacrifices ~20 mil and kills a beggar to get to N-, then prays for a precrown. More money is needed at precrown 13. I sacrifice 75 million, and all of a sudden I'm C-, and Holy Slayers are summoned.

I'm still thinking "Wait what?" so I go to pick up a random precrown to bash slayers with. And then I'm sacrificed. Boom. I'm incredibly stupid.

I figure I piety overflowed the other direction, so the N god hated me and summoned. However, the alter was neutral as I converted after sacing so it wasn't converted as well. I guess piety overflow works in the opposite direction as well... Damn.

Of note: My stuff is all on the ground, but you can see the awesome skillset and magic marks. Magic missile owned everything. And the kill list. Check ancient karmic dragon and greater moloch. I killed a lot of them.

This is probably what one would call the EPIC FAIL of piety scumming.

Yeah, probably. I suppose I deserve it. Interesting to see the other end of the phenomenon.

...Though how else am I supposed to get 15 precrowns? I'm not farming 200mil worth of stomfillia, I know that much...

You simply went way overboard in the end, I think. 75 million was overkill, another 20 should probably have done it. Ask Grey - he did the 15 precrown thing and can tell you what exactly is needed (he used dragon gold too).

I've gotten 15 precrowns before through dragon gold doubling - wasn't too hard if you don't count the getting to level 50 part I don't know the exact formula for piety requirements, but my own estimates say around 900 million gold is needed in total. When actually achieving the 15 precrowns I found this was actually overkill. However I had no trouble whatsoever saccing 200 million gold at once.

I don't know what the hell happened to you, but you must have sacced far too much gold earlier on. 13th precrown should only need about 40 million gold, so maybe in general you were going overboard before that. Another possibility is that you actually ended up CN from beggar-killing. I always used L altars to avoid having to fiddle with alignment.

Here's my own (somewhat over-the-top) estimates for gold needed at each level:

    1: 95k
    2: 250k
    3: 565k
    4: 1m
    5: 1.5m
    6: 2.3m
    7: 3m
    8: 4.5m
    9: 7m
    10: 12m
    11: 18m
    12: 28m
    13: 40m
    14: 80m
    15: 120m

I'll keep that in mind if I ever have the patience to scum I40 for GMs again. But as for the beggar-killing... I know that wasn't the case, at least. I went to N- after killing the beggar, then came back to the altar, sacced, and dropped to C-. Unless the piety display wasn't correctly updated after killing the beggar? I thought that only happened when saccing...?

    Should this be spoily-edited?

    My mistake, thanks Grey!

75M should be quite far from causing piety overflow. I have successfully sacrificed more than 300M (in single sacrifice) without getting any consequences from it.
