Default YAVP: Grey Elf Necro (sort of speedrun)

This is my first real attempt at a speedrun of any kind, and, I have to admit, it wasn't really that fast as far as such things go. I rolled a GE necromancer and basically followed a variation of gut's wizard guide--started in the Bugcave again until around level 10, then went to ID looking for teleport + blink dogs. Ug, what a waste of time. I think I finally left the ID with teleport (and a couple other spells) and control after ~10000 turns. I assume that if this were a regular speedrun I would have restarted--evariste is already finished by now Found black dragon armor in Darkforge, as well as a spear of devastation (main weapon for the entire game...) Did the CoC to DT, got a few herbs, although not a whole lot (you'll notice that I finish with sub-20 toughness, for example). Skipped through Pyramid to kill Rehetep, grabbed elemental gauntlets without any attempts to kill Griff or Nonnak (in hindsight, those few PoEH would have probably been a big help). Went back to Terinyo to pick up healing... playing without healing is lame. I've definitely been spoiled playing so many Candle-borns recently. Health regeneration was a problem pretty much the whole game since Healing didn't hit 100 until D:50.

Skipped down to Water Temple and killed the Snake under Darkness for the Water Orb. Very fortunately I managed to get his corpse to Guth'Alak for a potion... I guess I was level 15 or so, with around 100 health and PP. I had done everything I needed to, so it was ToEF time. I had a RoI at least, and I killed Guth'Alak so I could get the SoRS. So maybe 130 health now. ToEF 1-3 were fine (there were some frost giant berserkers in the tower, ignore them, but weird). ToEF 4 I got lucky as hell. Opened the main room but didn't have far slaying, so I had to get pretty close in. Got confused and stumbled next to the ACW. Energy ray would have been death. Fortunately, I managed to avoid that... ACW was posing a problem since I didn't have many pots of invis, ball spells, or a really good weapon. I hit him with some frost bolts (don't work all that well) then threw my only PoCC at him... 1 shot kill. Twice lucky. Grabbed the Orb and headed down to Casino. Evaded the Eternal Guardian, picked up some books and things (nothing super-useful in Casino, although I was basically out of teleport by this point). Got the kitty ring. Nasty threat room of ogre emperors on cat lord level guarding the stairs. Got crowned with Sun's Messenger (first time I've ever seen it). Wandered down to UL:4 and killed AKW for a bunch of levels. Was planning on hitting D:48 to kill the ubergrues, but got sidetracked by a greater fire vault on D:47. Normally I would ignore such a thing... high corruption, turn waster.... but there were yellow bracers in the vault. Oh, and 12 great red wyrms. Frost bolted my way through and left at level 50 with BoW in my possession. I had been picking up arrows as I went along for Sun's Messenger, so I thought I'd have enough for archmage. Cleared Mana Temple without too much difficulty, archmage fell easily to Sun's Messenger despite starting the battle with 0 skill in bows. Grabbed Earth + Air orbs, headed to D:50.

D:50 was nasty. Wasted probably 5k+ turns there. I was planning on doing a dig + monster creation win, but I accidentally triggerd a bunch of the main room balors. Ended up having to dance around killing them with spells (no acid ball, no daemon slayer), which was exacerbated by picking up stiff muscles. Had to pray 3 times for HP... ugh. Killed all the balors except Fisty, who I was able to evade by leaving monsters on the levers. Left the Chain for the win. Finished in 35639 turns, a new record for me, with a score of 69851296, also a record. I think this is also my fastest played game, which I finished in ~6 hours.
Hoping to win with every class, doomed. Archer, Barbarian, Bard, Beastfighter, Druid, Elementalist, Farmer, Fighter, Monk, and ULE Priest down.

    YOUR HISTORY:
Your parents belong to the nobility. They are rich, respected,
wealthy and own more than they can count.
As a young child you were often alone. You did not have any
friends. You do not like to remember those times. They were very sad.
In your youth you became seriously ill and suffered for many years.
When your disease finally was cured you were left weakened, both
physically and spiritually, and bereft of the joys of youth.
As a young adult you left your home because of trouble with your
parents. They opposed your plans for the future without understanding your
wishes. Thus you decided to live on your own. You wandered through the
country for many years, growing older and wiser and learning many things.
You decided to become a Necromancer.

Very nice job! I'd be wary of playing a gray elf necro at all, let alone attempting a speedrun with one. I don't think anyone will disagree with your decision to take on the vault for the bracers of war, either.

It's just like playing a GE wizard, except with out all of the nice wizard perks. Instead you get a free way to turn alignment into Mana.

Huh... Speedrun? My first win was done in about 35 days and my second in 30... I wasn't going for a speedrun. Maybe I just play the game quickly?
The RNG is the source of chaos and corruption.

Turns, not days. To get a low daycount you just need early 7lbs and not spend time in the Wilderness. I'm not sure what the record for days is. I'd guess you can do the game in maybe 10-15 days gametime if you planned it probably.

Although low turncount often means lowish daycount, it's not always the case. For example, it's very turn efficient to heal yourself in the wilderness--1 turn might heal 20+ health and PP, but it costs you 8 hours. OTOH, I stairhopped for 10k turns this game, which might have translated into 2 days.

The quickest win in game time that I know of is about eight and a half days by evariste.

I may have beaten that in some of my
lithium man games from over a year ago.
    Can't remember anything anymore.
