Default Pools? To drink or not to drink?

So would you? or not? And why?

Personally i tend to do so. TPC isn't that hard to find again. And a basic altar to remove the curse doom.

Only if I need a wish. Otherwise I feel it's too much of a crapshoot to be worth it.
ADOM Guides - whatever you wanted to know about playing a certain class, but have been afraid to ask!

Check out my youtube channel to see my ADOM videos, including a completed playthrough of the game. I try to give instructions, so if you want to see some place you haven't been before and get some hints on how to deal with it, this might help! There's also some other games featured there that you might find interesting.

Only if my willpower is low. Also, I think someone already made a thread like this but oh well... YOUNG AND ALIVE THREADS FTW!

C'mon... drink it. Just a little sip. How bad could it be?

    You know you want to!

I love to drink with low level characters. :-)

Generally speaking I am fine drinking from pools. If it's a random one found early, I want to be able to survive the snakes (since they're so common), but otherwise might consider drinking with abandon - early on you have fewer resistances, so the odds of getting a good result from the pool are higher. If it's later on with a character that's been around a while (say, hunting for an AoLS wish), I'll only want to drink if I can reasonably handle all the negative effects that might come up - water elemental, poison, aging, dooming, etc.

The question should be not whether to start, it should be when to stop. Generally, when not hunting for an AoLS, I'll drink a few until doomed or get something really good like permanent invisibility or a bunch of resistances.

I avoid pools like the plague, as every character dies shortly after. (RNG hates me :<)

When I first see the arena, I fight 19 times in it.
So I save all pool-sipping til after that.

I also require a means to remove curse/doom before sipping away.

All of the above means I generally just skip em, unless, as stated, I need a wish real bad.

I think I just like the chance to get natural resists that are literally completely unavailable elsewhere. They can be really helpful and allow for less item jockeying (or worse, forgetting to switch when you need to). And they're just fun to have since you so rarely will have them in a given game =)
