Thread: Can't cast spell on the 'W' key?

Default Can't cast spell on the 'W' key?

ADOM 1.1.1 on Linux - I have to quick-mark the spell currently on 'W' on the spell screen in order to cast it. The screen just flickers when I press W, and it happens in Sage as well. The spell for me is currently Teleport, so it's kind of annoying. Anyone seen this before?

My spell list only shows 20 spells at a time, so I only get to 't'. Sorry, can't help.
I said it before, and I'll say it again. If I knew scripture like you, I'd prolly be an athiest too.. -gut

I assume you're playing in full-screen? If you give me a copy of your save file I can see if I encounter the same problem, but I don't see why you'd play in fullscreen if you can avoid it - playing with levels that big is practically suicidal.

Your levels are bigger in fullscreen? There must be something wrong with your settings, but I can't remember how to fix it right now (and I don't know your OS.)
You hit Andor Drakon, the ElDeR cHaOs GoD, and severely wound him.
The greater balor summons some help!
The ratling duelist disarms you. You drop your blessed Trident of the Red Rooster (+36, 6d12+18) [+12, +12]. It flies to the west.

It's a columns and rows thing, but I also can't remember
the specifics off the top of my head, as I never fool with it.
I'm pretty certain it doesn't have anything to do with
fullscreen mode, at least in the dos version. If memory
serves, once you roll a PC with smaller or larger dungeons,
you're stuck with it for the life of the PC, regardless of
whether you try to change it later.

Oh that's right, I play at 100x29 because my terminal settings have always been 100x30, then the footer from 'screen' takes a row. So I guess it's rare . And the character is stuck at 100x29, yeah.

At least you'll get a bigger casino.

and a nice animated forest... and a nice graveyard. Could be a nice challenge, beating the game on a bigger display ... with the minotaur emperors's axe in hand of course.

With food, magic mapping and teleportation it should not make so much of a difference. So playing as a troll might make it a lot more difficult.

Now Teleport is stuck on 'W' unless I learn Wish

Yeah, before coming to this forum I used to play in 80x50 mode. Monsters and getting surrounded were less of a problem than in 80x25, but food was a real issue in the early game. Probably because the same amount of monsters are generated but they are scattered over a larger area.

If you haven't tried playing in 80x50 (or other resolutions, but at least the DOS version only supports 80x25 and 80x50 IIRC) you should definitely try. It's like playing a different game, with different strategies.
