Use trademark to prevent a mess
One thing you can do is release the source-codes using a license compatible with GNU GPL, but trademark it to prevent everyone from making unauthorized modifications, just trademark the name ADOM, and trademark your e-mail address, then if someone makes something based on these codes then they cannot use the name ADOM or your e-mail address and therefore you will not receive e-mail messages based on things you know nothing about. You can trademark another things also so that if someone uses this codes to make something based off some of the codes, they have to remove everything trademarked.
And, even if you don't want to release source-codes right away, release it when you are dead or retired at least!

I don't think that would work very well, being a (former) modder just to cheat at the game, and everything can't be controlled so easily, information wants to be free
